The most visible area in any kitchen is the countertop. There are many things to consider out about countertops, starting with the materials used to make them.
Your choice in kitchen countertops is varied and ranges from expensive but durable materials, such as granite countertops, to not so expensive and quite attractive materials, like laminates or ceramic tiles.
The latter are definitely appropriate if you have a do-it-yourself plan whereas the marble or granite countertops require expert installation.
The criteria for choosing a kitchen countertop usually comes down to the following: durability, visual appeal and maintenance. Arguably the most important of the three is durability. It should be able to withstand anything you do in the kitchen for many years. Homeowners who decide to remodel their kitchens will not be fully satisfied unless they have chosen the right material and color for their kitchen countertop.
Since there are so many kitchen countertop options available, you may find it difficult to make a choice. When shopping for countertops, you can choose from granite, laminate, ceramic tile, engineered stone, soapstone, stainless steel and wood. Granite kitchen countertops and the ceramic tile countertops are currently a very popular choice. Marble countertops are also a favorite among designers.
Your Lavitech project manager can help you choose the right countertop for your kitchen and budget. Call us at 818-232-7385 and see what we can do for you.
The following is an overview of Lavitech’s procedure when starting a new project. Although this outline focuses on kitchen counters the process is the same for most installations.
Once you recieve a Job Confirmation, the countertop project goes through the production steps of templating, fabrication, tear out and installation. Tear out and installation occur on the same day.
In the templating process, we make a pattern of your cabinets. When we arrive for templating, we ask that you clear your countertops and keep the work area free of any objects. This will help us to finish the template efficiently, and will also protect your items from any dust or damage.
During this phase:
- All sinks/cooktops/faucets are checked for compatibility and fit (therefore all such units must be on-site at template).
- Cabinets are reviewed for any adjustments required
- Seam placement will be discussed.
- Overhang, general support and any personal preferences are discussed. Any refinements required prior to installation of your countertops will be discussed with you.
Below is a list of information we will ask for prior to the production process. We prefer to obtain all of this information/material at time of templating or very soon after.
- Sinks (we will bring undermount sinks back to the shop)
- Faucet make and model and placement
- Cooktop/Range make and model; cutout dimensions; downdraft when applicable
- Edge preference
During installation, your undermount sink will be mounted under the stone. We ask that you do not do any plumbing in or use the sink in any way for at least 12 hours. Please keep this in mind when scheduling your plumber to reconnect the water and drain. Also, cooktops and faucets, etc. will be dropped into place for confirmation of fit.
If your project requires that we tear out and remove your existing countertops, we will do so at time of installation. We will also disconnect your plumbing at time of tear out, so be sure not to use your dishwasher until your plumber has reconnected the water.
Prior to fabrication, we encourage you to approve your slabs. We will ask that you review and give final approval of the Post Template Checklist. If the drawing submitted for your quote differs from your actual job we will let you know at this time and adjust the price accordingly.
